Louisiana College Provided Professional Development in Africa
Louisiana College's Teacher Education Department again partnered with Opportunity Education to provide teachers in the developing world with teacher professional development. Educators from Louisiana College traveled to Kampala, Uganda, East Africa in July 2012 and provided two professional development seminars to teachers from urban Kampala and rural Uganda. Four hundred and three teachers attended the two seminars where they had an opportunity to participate in different sessions designed to fit the age level of the students in their classes. This was the second consecutive year Louisiana College's Teacher Education Department presented professional development seminars in Africa. In 2011, a team from the College traveled to Moshi and Mwanza, Tanzania, where 502 teachers participated in two seminars. Opportunity Education is pleased to offer these professional development seminars in conjunction with Louisiana College's Teacher Education Department to promote quality instruction, assessment and certification to teachers who work in the target schools in our program.
