Perpi Agyemang / Ghana
Opportunity Education's partner in Ghana, since our program was established there in 2008, has been Student and Youth Travel Organization (SYTO). SYTO is a non-profit and non-governmental organization founded by Dr. Edmund Prempeh in 1994. Its mission is to provide a complete range of cross-cultural programs and support services to youth, volunteers, students, educators, institutions and gap year organizations. Perpetua (Perpi) Opoku-Agyemang is the General Manager and principal facilitator of the program. Perpi has a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Strategic Management and Consultancy. She originally worked at SYTO from 2000 to 2004 and then, when her husband was posted there, worked in London with three NGOs; The Medaille Trust, Link Community Development and VSO-UK. She re-joined SYTO as General Manager in 2011. In total she has 10 years' experience working in various developmental, non-governmental organizations in Ghana and abroad. She has a great deal of experience in the fields of community development, education, women's issues, children and the marginalized. To quote Perpi "I have become passionate about working with different types of people. Volunteerism has actually become part of me and occasionally I get questions from friends as to whether I would work outside volunteerism but this is where I get my satisfaction."
