Ganananda Nanayakkara / Sri Lanka
Professor B. Ganananda Nanayakkara has acted as the Local Coordinator for the Opportunity Education Foundation in Sri Lanka since its inception in 2006.
Professor Nanayakkara graduated from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, and had specialized postgraduate clinical training in the fields of restorative dentistry and maxillo facial prosthetics in Kings College, London, Guys Hospital, London, Queen Mary’s University Hospital, London and the University of London. He has over seventy research publications in national and international scientific journals to his credit. Professor Nanayakkara was appointed as the president of the Sri Lanka Dental Association in 2003.He has been awarded WHO fellowships on medical education in Thailand and India and has participated in conferences in Hong Kong, Australia, the US, Malaysia, Taiwan and Nepal.
Professor Nanayakkara served as the head of the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna in Galle, Sri Lanka for many years and currently holds the position of Director, Centre for International Affairs at the University of Ruhuna. He served as the coordinating director of the Sri Lankan cleft lip and palate project which was conducted in collaboration with the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. Additionally, he served as the local coordinator of the Medical Aid to Galle (MAGE), a British project set up to provide assistance after the Asian tsunami in 2004. In recognition of his service to the University of Ruhuna, he has been honored as a recipient of the Vice Chancellor’s Award in 2009.
