Vice President, Teacher Resources & Tools

About the Role

The VP, Teacher Resources & Tools leads the development of OE’s subscription business, offering teacher resources, curriculum, professional learning courses and software tools to busy teachers wanting to improve their work with students. While revenue is secondary to reach, adoption and impact, the VP will function in a revenue leadership role, working closely with the VP Marketing to reach and convert teachers effectively. The VP will also work closely with the VP, School Network Support to ensure availability of all OE assets to our network schools.

The VP manages the Professional Learning and the Teacher Tools teams.

The overall goal of this role is to grow OE’s subscriber network to over 12,000 teachers and 600 schools nationally, with a goal of generating revenue from 20% of those subscribers, to enable teachers to adopt active learning practices and effective feedback methods for students in all states and in charter, independent and public schools.

 

Responsibilities

Develop an Effective Subscription Business Model

  • Work with the leaders of the teacher support and teacher tools teams to develop and implement an effective business model for a freemium subscription business.
  • Implement subscription mechanisms and plans, integrate them into the OE website and products, and create the marketing strategies to grow the business.
  • Launch the business, relying on influencer marketing, search marketing, organic social marketing, events and partnerships. Work closely with the marketing team to develop and execute campaigns.

Scale the Business with Teachers and Schools

  • Evaluate and refine marketing strategies and tactics, and execute them reliably to rapidly build a large base of free subscribers, then upsell them to premium or school subscriptions
  • Evaluate and report performance metrics on a daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly basis and refine positioning, pitches and campaigns. 
  • Engage actively with active users to understand their use of OE resources and tools, include them in marketing campaigns if possible, and gain their advice for improving our marketing.
  • Establish advisory boards, engage teachers in focus groups, and create partnerships with other organizations to drive growth.

Continue the Development of Effective Products

  • Ensure effective usage data evaluation and work with their direct reports to continuously improve our products and plan new products to seize relevant opportunities.
  • Work closely with OE’s Chief Learning Officer to summarize and publish both internal impact evaluation reports (quarterly) and public-facing impact reports (annually).

Position Details

  • The position reports to the President & COO.
  • The position is fully remote, with occasional travel to network school sites, meetings and events.
  • Experience in building an ed-tech or media subscription business strongly preferred.
  • The Director, Professional Learning and Director, Teacher Tools, report to the VP, Teacher Resources & Tools.
