Opportunity Education, a non-profit organization committed to helping students develop the skills and habits to succeed in school and beyond, announced the appointment of James Troupis as Chief of Schools. Troupis will be responsible for leading the development of the organization’s growing school network, which includes Quest Forward High Schools, supported by Opportunity Education, as well as charter and partner schools using Opportunity Education’s Quest Forward Learning methodology, curriculum, and tools.

“With the recent approval of charter school applications in Florida and Iowa, and other states in process, it’s time to bring in a senior leader to accelerate the growth of our school network,” said J. Joe Ricketts, founder and CEO of Opportunity Education. “I’m proud to be expanding our work and impact with seven new charter and partner schools, including schools in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which are scheduled to open in the fall of 2025. Every new school furthers our mission to enable young people to take ownership of their education and become lifelong learners.”

Troupis brings over 20 years of experience to this role. His background includes teaching in the New Orleans public school system and training Los Angeles teachers as a program director for Teach for America. He was also Chief People Officer at the Noble Schools Network in Chicago, and a co-founder of OpenSeat, an organization that helps schools provide personalized, one-to-one, social-emotional support to students.

“I’m an ardent believer that all students should have access to an incredible education,” said Troupis. “I’m impressed with what Opportunity Education has been able to achieve over the past two decades and eager to be part of the organization’s future. There’s nothing more important than helping students acquire the skills they need to be successful.”
