Our Approach

Active and Engaged Learning

We believe that students learn better when they are active and engaged. Our students own their learning and drive the process of discovery, growth and understanding, and skills practice. They learn by asking questions and seeking answers, testing potential solutions to problems, and iterative trial and error.

Rigorous Academics and Critical Thinking

The world is constantly changing, and today’s students face challenges driven by global forces that include the rise of artificial intelligence, a new space age, politics at home and abroad, and more. These challenges also create opportunities that reward creative problem solving, leadership, and vision. Our schools prepare students for the future through rigorous course offerings and curriculum that foster creative and flexible thinking.

Pathways – College and Career

All of our students participate in our Pathways program, which helps them identify, develop, and pursue a path to their best-fit college and/or career. Our focus includes: personal interest assessments, annual on-site career experiences, in-depth post-secondary/college counseling, personal finance education, and senior capstone projects.

Advisory Model

To support every student’s success, all students have a staff advisor and advisory group that stays with them throughout their four-year journey at the school. This advisory model ensures all students get personalized support, and families have a clear point of contact.

Community Involvement

In addition to rigorous academics, we focus on developing the whole student. Our students are encouraged to pursue their interests and required to participate in their community through volunteer work, internships, and on–site learning experiences at local businesses and community organizations.

FAQs

How many Opportunity Education Network Schools have you established?

The Opportunity Education Network includes five schools in operation or pre-launch phase. This includes:

What is a public charter school?

It’s a public and tuition-free school. Charter schools provide a choice for parents and students seeking an option to traditional public schools. Public charter schools are created and governed by private organizations, such as Opportunity Education.

Do students have to pay to attend a public charter school?

No. Like any public school, public charter schools are free to all students.

Are there standards that need to be met to attend a public charter school?

No. Like any public school, a public charter school is open to all students.

Are all of your schools charter schools?

No. The Omaha and Santa Rosa campuses are independent schools that are funded by tuition, scholarships, and donations. Visit our Quest Forward High School site to learn more about our schools, the application process, and tuition.

How do I enroll my child in one of your schools?

To enroll in one of our Quest Forward High Schools, visit our website. Enrollment for the 2025 school year for Cedar Rapids Prep and Des Moines Prep isn’t open yet. Stay tuned!

What do your schools offer students?

First and foremost, we offer a rigorous academic experience rooted in nearly two decades of work focused on active, engaged learning. Our approach to learning is rooted in the belief that students learn best when they are active and engaged in the learning process, motivated by the ability to choose and make decisions, and receive  effective feedback. These beliefs are at the heart of the curriculum and programs offered at each of our schools.

What do all of the Opportunity Education Network Schools have in common?

All of our schools share an expectation of excellence from students and staff. We are dedicated to preparing our graduates to become tomorrow’s leaders. Our schools offer robust onsite career and college experiences to help students develop the skills they need to build purposeful and impactful lives. Learning how to learn, how to ask the right questions, how to solve problems, and how to grow as an individual through setbacks and successes are essential life skills — and part of the core curriculum at every one of our schools.

Do the Opportunity Education Network Schools have a religious or political affiliation?

No. None of our schools have any religious or political affiliation. We encourage open dialogue where students can explore and exchange ideas.

Do you have plans for additional schools?

Yes, we do! Stay tuned!
